2006 will have been an important year for our NGO. During these last months of working in the field here in Cambodia, we have learned a lot. We want to emphasise that the work we are able to do in favour of the Cambodian children is possible thanks to the help that individual donations bring us, donations from individuals like you. Ever since the creation of our NGO, our goal has been to be completely transparent regarding the use we make of the funds that you bestow upon us. We have received a little more than 10 000 USD during 2006, and even though it might look like a small sum, it has allowed us to make thousands of improvements in the field.

Thanks to this money, we have been able to continue our activities among some of the poorest people on the planet. We have also been able to consolidate our achievements among the children who are now receiving basic education, or who can continue to attend school because of our work with their parents or guardians. We continue to distribute rice every two months. We have also managed to consolidate our cooperation with the Cambodian authorities, and especially with the teachers, with whom we work side by side. Hence, from the end of October 2006, AVEC will support more than 800 children in the Homale municipality of Battambang. This represents more than 6000 USD spent by the NGO over three schooling days, when we distribute “school survival kits” and school uniforms, so that the children don’t have to go to school dressed in rags. Thanks to this action, we will be able to get into contact with numerous children and extend our help to the most impoverished.

Our qualities
A small, closely knit team which has proven to be very effective in the field.
Excellent in identifying children who belong to the high-risk groups.
Our Khmer and Western volunteers work out of idealism, and without a salary.
We perform real miracles with very small means.
We have excellent schooling results, and we are following the pupils very closely to see that they go to school, and continue to go to school.
We have patience, and we work in all kinds of climatic and social conditions.
We work for long term goals, and we meet the families and the children in their homes, but also in school.
We have cultivated straight contacts with the authorities, as well as with the teachers and the headmasters.
We don’t create aid-dependant families; we give limited food aid and school material for the children, but we also support the schools directly.
We support almost 200 children and 53 families on less than 10 000 dollars a year.
We strive to provide our sponsors with a maximum of information, because we believe that a sponsor who gets respect for what he or she does, becomes a long-term sponsor.
