We are simply amazed by our sponsors who have sent a very big amount of correspondence to the children that they support. Family photos, post cards and letters for the children have come to our postal box. The correspondence works as a lever, which motivates even more the families to send their children to school. We will be able to explain concretely how people from another end of the world support the children and the families, and that the only thing that they ask in return is that the kids go to school. We have sponsors in all ages: young girls, young couples with small children, retired couples. We have sponsors who make punctual donations and even people who want to support an adolescent in his or her future studies or training.
Hence, we don’t live in a world that is as egoistic as it’s often said. There are still people who believe in solidarity and who are prepared, as in the present case, to do something for a child that they don’t know, and who lives in a small village out in the Cambodian wilds. I have to admit that when my wife and I go to the post office in Battambang, it is always with some exaltation. I believe more and more strongly that we are onto a good solution and that there will come a day when we can face the future with peace in mind. Because for the time being, we can’t make ends meet. We are digging in our meagre reserves, and we don’t know how long time we can keep going. From the beginning of our actions for the Cambodian children, we knew that the task was difficult and that the beginning would be hard. But, finally, the more we engage ourselves in this project, the more we realise that what we do is vital for these kids. In return we receive so much energy from the children we meet.
Our NGO AVEC, having made itself a good reputation among the teachers in the neighbouring schools, currently faces a huge demand of support from a big number of schools. Since we would like to stick to our objectives and keep our budget as well as we possibly can, we actively search for help: from anywhere and of any kind, because so important is this task. |
